Tomatillos are an annual plant of the nightshade family and are native to Mexico and Central America. Tomatillos are used to make soups, jams, chutneys, salsa and more. Here is our produce suppliers favorite tomatillo salsa recipe: Roast 1 pound of tomatillos(about 8-10 large tomatillos) with the husks removed, 1/2 white onion, 2 cloves whole garlic and 5 chile arbol for a mild sauce(10 if you like it spicy!) in a fry pan on the stove. Once the outside has blackened all around the tomatillos(about 15-20 min) and the rest of the ingredients put them into a blender until smooth. TIPS!! Take each item out as they are roasted or you will have a burnt/bitter taste to the salsa. The chile arbol takes only one quick minute to roast so keep a watch on it. Once you have blended all the ingredients add salt to taste. The tomatillo salsa is delicious on tacos, quesadillas, sopes, tostadas, on top of pork chops or chicken or just enjoy with chips!
